Laura's extensive experience in art and design has been the blueprint for her development as a designer. Painting and drawing have always been passions. A studio art minor informed her vision early in college and her degree in magazine design from the University of Missouri gave her further insight into the application of design principles.

 

After working as a web-designer, Laura wanted to further her career in the world of design arts and earned her M. A. in Art History from George Washington University. After receiving valuable experience working at the Hirshhorn Museum in Washington, D.C. and at Gagosian Gallery in New York, Laura knew she was missing the act of creating her own artwork and enrolled at the New York School of Interior Design. An internship with Tom Scheerer followed, along with employment at Loffredo Brooks Architects and Kathleen Walsh Interiors. Laura Krey Design was established in 2008 with two fundamental beliefs that living with beauty can inspire and that the process of creating a home helps you to discover more about yourself.

 

Laura Krey Design is a full-service residential interior design firm established by Laura Krey with a founding principle that passion must marry purposeful design. A residence is an intensely personal space that should be both beautiful and brainy. We bridge these worlds for our clients and ultimately create unified, yet highly personal environments reflective of each client.

 

While we design complete renovations, we also understand that much can be accomplished through careful editing and spatial re-organization. Laura initially approaches each project as an editor, helping clients utilize and potentially re-purpose existing pieces. She then acts as an investigator, determining how clients live best in their spaces.  The final step involves processing and integrating this information, which translates into creatively designed spaces reflective of livable, comfortable environments.

 

We also believe that your home frames all your future actions and thus should be a place that nurtures and provides great beauty. We create beauty through style that is timeless. Laura’s signature style is derived at the juncture of old and new - the gentle balance between.
